Storyteller

Tom Lutz is well known for the real-life stories he tells. His latest book, A Taste of Freedom, is full of them. If you’d like to watch and hear him read a story or two, here are the ones he has selected for this edition of the Lutzgroup.com website.

“Swingin’ Jazz—In the Church”

It has been said that music is the Devil’s workshop in the church; too loud, too fast, too upbeat, too irreverent, too stodgy, too traditional, . . . As Tom recalls, these same debates raged 50+ years ago. When the North Freedom Baptist Church finally installed a new electronic organ, the congregation had no idea what that Hammond could really do. Spend a few minutes while the author reads you a story about jazz in the church.

“The Hitchhiker”

He was banged up enough in football practice for the coach to let him off early. Hitchhiking was the fastest way to get home instead of waiting for the practice bus at the end of the day. Little did Tom know what kind of adventure he’d encounter when he was picked up by someone just released from prison. Follow the reckless ride, the eye-opening conversation, and the change of heart that can happen on a seven mile trip. Listen and watch while Tom takes you along on that ride. (Then, as a bonus, take the time to click on the Between the Lines to read about the lessons he learned from the episode.)
